My new favorite look for day: just a simple little black dress and heels, accessorized for variety.

Years later, I'm still loving that Prada shoe....

From The Sartorialist, of course.

style profile: Giovanna Battaglia

One of my absolute favorite parts of the week is Sunday morning, curling up with a huge cup of tea and the New York Times' Style section. This week they featured Giovanna Battaglia, editor of Vogue's Italian jewelry and accessories editions -- and frequent favorite subject of street style photographers like The Sartorialist and Garance Dore. Here is the little interview they did with her about her style:

"WHAT I’M WEARING NOW My skirt is Dolce & Gabbana. My shirt, I designed. I had it done at a shirtmaker in Milan. It’s very Milanese to do this, and put your initials on it. Now I’m starting to have them made at Charvet in Paris. The shoes are Tabitha Simmons. The necklace is De Simone — it’s an old family from Naples — and the watch is a Patek Philippe Calatrava. It has my name on it. I’m quite obsessed with putting my name everywhere.

STYLE CREDO I’m classic. I’m not a rock ’n’ roll chick. And I like to mix old and new. I’ll never wear a full look from a fashion show. It has to be personalized. Accessories have always been a big thing for me. I have 352 pairs of shoes. I’m not kidding. I have a wall filled with them, and then another for handbags. I never throw anything away.

FAVORITE RECENT PURCHASES Three bathing suits from Norma Kamali — the ’50s “Dolce Vita” style. I got it in black-and-white, red and white. I photograph them all the time, but I never owned one.

FALL TRENDS I LIKE The ladylike, sexy Parisian woman. Like the Balenciaga look. I’m more into sensual, simple clothes now. Lots of silk and cashmere — stuff that makes you feel good. I love fashion and fun, but at the end of the day, the dress has to please you and your boyfriend.

FALL TRENDS I DON’T LIKE Crazy ’80s style. I shouldn’t say that because it’s a big trend, but who’s going to wear a shoulder like that? It’s fine for a picture, but I don’t like when a woman dresses too much like a fashion show. She looks like a clown, I think.

ON MY WISH LIST A Lanvin stole and a leather Alaïa skirt. Alaïa dresses are the best investment. You buy a sexy Alaïa dress, and you’re sure you won’t be alone."

I have to say, I completely agree on the 80s style trend and especially the Balmain shoulder craze.

i love this lady

She may be trying to stay as far away from the paparazzi and tabloids as possible these days, but I can't help looking for stalkerazzi shots of Sienna Miller because I think she's still one of the absolute best-dressed starlets out there. And not just because of how often I inadvertently wear all black!

young cool

These are the two looks that are inspiring me right now... a youthful mix of separates, all bundled up but hinting at spring. If only it were a few degrees warmer so I could wear a skirt without dying outside!

color studies

photos from The Sartorialist and Garance Doré

Recently a lot of my fashion inspiration has been taking the form of figuring out interesting color combinations... some of my favorites that I wear a lot are aqua/turquoise with red, khaki with red, aqua with bright yellow, and brown and teal. For me it's the best way to mix basics and still keep things a little interesting. I also love the idea of cream with navy and black & white, dark green and brown, and so many other things I get inspired by on these street style blogs.

bread & butter in barcelona

Everyone always talks about what great style the French and the Italians have, but to me it is Spanish people who really embrace fashion more than other cultures do.
Why? Well maybe I'm just biased, and I miss Spain (I used to live in Barça), but I love the way the Spanish will really take risks, go out on a limb with an unusual skirt, crazy accessories, a unique silhouette. They really go for a whole "look", and there's so much variety everywhere on the streets. French and Italian style tend to be more streamlined, but less quirky. I guess it's just a question of taste.
Right now they are having fashion expos in Barcelona known as "Bread&Butter"; here are some of my favorite of the street style photos taken there by Spanish blogs:

some recent favorites from "style and the city"

I've been posting mostly street style recently, I hope you all enjoy it!

Ah, to have such chic friends to hit the fashion shows with!

Young parisian girls: jeans, light breezy blouses and dresses, and lots of soft brown waves.

the best ensemble for biking in paris

from Cafe Mode, at Chanel Couture this week.

the polished boho look, in real life

Frida Giannini's Fall collection for Gucci seemed to say what has been said a million times: boho is coming back, again. I have seen it popping up here are there, but this time around, post-Sienna Miller boho phase, it seems to be a much more polished look. To keep it from going over the top, it seems like the best way to wear it is with minimalist shoes, like nice flip-flops, and modern accessories.

three looks from london

Very fifties with a satin dress, leopard print scarf, and gorgeous blond waves -- but very modern with black leggings and a blazer on top;
Spanish pop star Mercedes Vega, with an 80s look and newly-shorn hair;
The walking-Bendel's-bag look -- quirky yet fabulous.

get that look

Normally I'm not a huge fan of Lauren Conrad (or the Hills in general), but I do like when she keeps it simple. Browsing through the online sale at Urban Outfitters right now, this white bubble tank reminded me of this picture of LC -- casual but sophisticated for the warmer weather. The shirt already has an elastic hem, but tucking it into jeans the way LC does would give even more bubble effect. If I get this I will probably adjust the way the side meets the neckline (by the shoulder/underarm), bringing it in a little bit to re-create LC's neckline and get a little extra ruching in.

{Normalmente no me gusta nada Lauren Conrad (ni The Hills, su programa de televisión, en general), pero si que me gusta cuando tiene un estilo simple. Mirando las rebajas en Urban Outfitters ahora, este top me recordaba de la foto de LC de arriba -- es casual pero sofisticado para el tiempo un poco más cálido. El top ya tiene un dobladillo con elastico para hacer el estilo "bubble", pero si se lo metes en los pantalones como hace LC, tiene el efecto aún más. Si yo compro esto probablemente cambiaré un poco en parte del hombro/escote para parecer más al estilo de lo que lleva LC.}
