Very fifties with a satin dress, leopard print scarf, and gorgeous blond waves -- but very modern with black leggings and a blazer on top;
Spanish pop star Mercedes Vega, with an 80s look and newly-shorn hair;
The walking-Bendel's-bag look -- quirky yet fabulous.
All from The Style Scout, in London.

I love these British posters from circa 1939 that were printed by the government to keep the public calm but aware during wartime. Re-creations are being sold by an artist on etsy for $12. They would make a great decoration for an entryway at home or even an office, don't you think?
(And this let them eat cake print by the same artist is super-cute as well.)

more resort 2009
To me the best resort collections this season were all about mixing bright colors and different patterns, and maintaining the balance between structure and lightness appropriate for the resort season. Nobody does patterns quite like Missoni, who are probably best known for their zig-zag stripey knits, and they mixed this with florals and textured fabrics in outfits and even within single dresses, without it being too over-the-top.
Missoni:
Derek Lam:
Derek Lam had a definite retro vibe in some of his prints, but a definite modernity in the cuts of his outfits, all in vibrant colors and complex fabrics.
Roberto Cavalli:
Not a big fan of Cavalli's animal prints, but by keeping them in black and white here and using a light, translucent chiffon fabric with ruffles and pleats, they would be perfect for a vacation.
Balenciaga:
A lot of Balenciaga's resort looks were just spin-offs of their strong fall looks, but some managed to stand out because of light use of color that almost resembles Narciso Rodrigues or Calvin Klein, and much lighter fabrics, like in this perforated, airy white dress, that changed up the basic familiar structure.

i know it's a bit early... but this is definitely my new look for fall
I absolutely love what Frida Giannini has been doing with Gucci recently, building on the sleek sexiness and adding more hippie-ish details. It reminds me of a similar look I saw put together on the personal style blog, Le Petit Trianon, one of my favorites:

"The big, big thing I’ve discovered, the big secret, is that it’s all about how happy you are. It’s the ultimate thing. People forget your flaws and imperfections if they see you’re happy. And I’m incredibly happy right now. Probably happier than I’ve ever been. It’s happiness that makes you glow,’ she laughs. ‘Oh, and maybe just a little touch of fake tan!"
"I hated that whole 'boho' tag. I was known either for being Jude’s girlfriend or wearing my mum’s old skirts. I rebelled by cutting off my hair and wearing freaky clothes for a while. I think people see me much more for myself now. I like to think that people see me as an actress."
"Rhys and I have this horrible addiction to caviar, which sounds ridiculous but it’s true. We’re junkies. I was given some seven months ago and now we’ve got this full-on caviar habit. We do the whole works: blinis, chopped eggs, chopped red onion, sour cream… It’s total bliss... Oh my God, that makes me sound so spoilt, doesn’t it?"
"[Keira Knightley] has said I’m the confident one because at parties she’s very shy and I’m loud. But we just have different ways of dealing with nerves. She goes quiet and I go all effervescent."
"I can honestly say I’ve never exercised in my life. I joined a gym once, but only made it to the sauna. For this movie [GI Joe], I was told I had to work out. I have fight scenes, so I’ve been doing an hour a day with chains, knives, guns. I’ve definitely toned up." She says the past year has changed her. "I just want to be confident in what I do and enjoy my life."
