The only real style icon I've been thinking about lately is Brigitte Bardot. She's known of course as the quintessential sex kitten, but she also pulled off a great mod style, simple wearable outfits tied together perfectly, modest even despite her incredible looks.
It's a style I see in the shop girls of the fancy designer shops here in Milan -- the slightly bookish, oversize glasses, a crisp white shirt with the collar just so, something I can't quite put my finger on. A sort of modern androgyny, part mod and part almost schoolgirl.... Well I'll let you know if I master it.
